How to find the perfect test chamber without any stress? In this post, we delve into step 2 of our Worry-Free Five-Step Process: detailing a chamber design with Britt Links from our Design Department.
Britt: “After step one, the scope of work moves from the technical consultants to the design department. There are two main trajectories: pre-engineered and custom solutions. In the latter case, our R&D department develops a tailor-made conceptual design that requires the client’s approval before we start designing. In most cases, however, we can use one of our so-called worry-free solutions from our library to prepare a critical design review (CDR), in which we detail the chamber’s main elements, such as the wall connector panels, mains power line filters and, of course, the door.”
What happens when that first design is approved?
Britt Links: “Mostly, the client wants minor adjustments, such as the door’s rotary direction or adding an extra power line filter. Once the design is final, we let the client sign off on the detailed 3D drawing. At this stage, we begin work on the production and installation drawings, and we enter a period when additional change requests might significantly impact costs and planning. It is essential that the design is final in our clients’ minds.
Next, we prepare the bill of materials, plan, produce, and manage logistics. In this stage, our client is off the hook for a while and receives regular process updates while we start preparing another nice Comtest chamber.”
