Marc Le Roy: “OEMs are known to struggle with the effects of design iterations on their hardware. They worry about the changes, what they mean for the product’s performance, and how to prevent having to go back to the drawing board if the product fails the final tests. Any extra step in the design stage will cost money and increase the time to market. One of the problems, in my opinion, is a lack of EMC thinking in the development stage.”
How can OEMs efficiently prevent unexpected bugs in their electronics?
Marc Le Roy: “I have long been an advocate for in-house pre-testing and even precertification before going to a certification test house. You don’t have to buy your own chamber to embrace pre-testing; there are alternatives. My advice: start with pre-testing at a pre-compliant lab, such as Raditeq’s Rentalab or KU Leuven Brugge. Get comfortable with this process, and then consider a sustainable, future-proof solution, such as getting your own chamber.”
